Our Open Day on Saturday 24th October was a great success in spite of the weather. Thirteen of our regular hirers put on displays and demonstrations.
The Mayor of Solihull, Cllr Glenis Slater (2nd from right) and Caroline Spelman MP (2nd from left) came along and both were very impressed with the refurbishment, the work undertaken by the committee and the fund-raising done by the hirers. We were delighted that Linda Ridgley (right), who sits on the Grand Panel for Veolia grants, was also able to attend. She also was amazed at the work that had been done, the many and varied organisations that use the hall and pleased to see a thriving hub for the Bentley Heath community and beyond. Richard Bryant and Lucilla Lang of BHCA committee are also pictured.
About 150 people attended during the course of the afternoon and free tea, coffee and cakes were well received. The room was fairly buzzing as the photograph shows.

You will have seen in the local papers that Veolia, the Waste Management Company, has granted Bentley Heath Community Centre almost £25,000 to refurbish the kitchen, toilets and windows. BHCA has to contribute 20% of the total cost of the works – about £6.2k.
This is a huge boost for the centre and thanks go to the Management Committee who worked for hours putting the bid together, SUSTAiN who advised the committee and the local community, councillors and MP for their support. The work will be done during July and August when there should be least disruption to the use of the centre.
Gardening Clubs’ Fundraising Quiz – 21st February 2015
Three of the Gardening Clubs that meet at the hall held a Quiz Night with Fish and Chip Supper and raised an amazing £714 for further improvements at the centre. Alan Lang was Quizmaster and 90 people came along and enjoyed themselves.
Fifteen prizes were donated to the raffle and this added to the funds. Well done to everyone who made this a success.
The U3A held a very successful Quiz Night and Fish & Chip Supper in October.
Here is a photograph of Graham Jones and Richard Bryant presenting a fantastic cheque for £600 to the BHCA Treasurer.
It was agreed that these funds would be used to renew the carpet in the entrance hall and the side passages by the stage.
Thank you U3A!
The Bentley Heath Country Market held a coffee morning and sale to raise funds for the improvement of the facilities at the Community Centre. Clifford Grauers (left) presents the Treasurer, Jim Crook, with a donation of over £300 and following a subsequent fundraising event the overall total is nearly £500. Thank you Country Market!
As part of the fundraising efforts by regular hirers of the hall, the Packwood and Bentley Heath WI kindly presented us with a Combi-Microwave oven. This is available in the kitchen for all hirers. This was presented by Hazel Luscombe, Chairman of this WI, to John Rigby, Facilities Manager, representing the Management Committee of the Bentley Heath Community Association.
